Every year at this time, we (like so many other nonprofits) send out a Holiday Campaign letter to share the year’s successes and challenges, and ask our community to renew their support and investment in our mission. Your generous contributions to our campaign are vital to our impact on the artists and patrons we serve, and especially to the countless families and kids who rely on us for financially accessible, professionally oriented theatre experiences.
As with everything else that 2020 has forced change upon, our holiday campaign’s significance to our stability is drastically different than in past years and now amplified tenfold. With the cancellation of all revenue-generating events, we were left with donations and emergency relief funds as our sole means of survival. In gratitude, and driven by the indefatigable artistic need to create and connect, we switched gears and made the extraordinary seismic shift to an entirely new all-online season, completely free to the community.
For the whole world, this has been a year of change, but instead, we’ve chosen to look at it as a Year of Choice. Although the “venues” changed from in-person to online, we made the choice to stay true to our core mission and continue offering accessible arts experiences to all.
Was it hard? Yes. Was it scary? Yes. Was it way out of our comfort zones? Yes. But was it worth it?
Because amidst all the change, uncertainty, and unknown, the one thing that hasn’t changed is our resilience. From past anecdotes of toppled trees and wind-blown sets, collapsed stage decks and rained-out performances, SVS always bounces back—stronger, smarter, Shakespeare-ier. Our actual team may be small, but our greater family—of patrons, donors, kids, artists, and volunteers—is boundless. Though we be but little, we are truly fierce.
We are made fierce by you.
It is because of your support, your advocacy, and most importantly, your belief in us that we’re still here, providing accessible, meaningful arts experiences to all and inspiring the next generation of theatremakers.
So until we can meet again in person, under the stars and surrounded by redwoods, here’s how you can help:
- Donate now. Your financial support is tax deductible!
- Arrange a matching donation. Your employer might match your gift to us. Or, connect us with your employer to sponsor SVS.
- Set up a legacy gift. A small arrangement today gives long-term support toward SVS’ future and costs you nothing now.
For any questions or help arranging your support, please contact Melissa Jones, Development Manager, at 408-289-1901 or email@example.com. You can also contact any of us, at any time—we want to hear your thoughts!
Thank you for making the choice to give us hope.
Much love and warmest wishes to you and yours,
