“Are you still watching?” Anything can happen at Silicon Valley Shakespeare’s eighth annual 48-Hour Play Festival, co-produced with the Foothill College Theatre Arts Department, where our writers will explore what happens when famous Shakespearean plays meet binge worthy TV!

Theme: What happens to Shakespeare’s plays when they meet the most binge worthy television tropes?

Registration closes Dec. 3rd. 24 actors will be chosen by lottery on Tuesday, Dec. 7th at 6pm and will receive confirmation of acceptance by Dec. 10th. Please note that 12 acting slots will be reserved for Foothill Students. This is a volunteer opportunity.

PLEASE NOTE: All participants will be required to provide proof of full vaccination in advance of the festival kick-off and show no active symptoms of COVID-19. At this time, masks are required on campus (indoor and outdoor), sanctioned dress rehearsals and performances excepted.


Friday, 6pm:
Play Festival Kickoff at the Smithwick Theatre– Teams are assigned, and writers choose a Shakespeare play and a binge TV show/element on which to base their script (drawn at random). All teams will be given a required line of dialogue and prop to incorporate into their pieces.

Saturday, by 12pm:
Scripts are due from writers by 12:00pm.

Saturday, 1pm-6pm:
Rehearsals from 1-6pm. Directors are required to email a copy of the script to their cast in advance. Actors (or directors if actors are unable) are responsible for printing their own scripts. You will have all day to memorize, as well as hunt for costumes and props out of your closet and rehearse like a Shakespearean madman!

Sunday, 12pm-3pm (30 min. blocks):
30 min blocks for individual group tech/dress run through. Groups may do additional rehearsal outside on campus as needed.

Sunday, 3:15pm-5pm:
FULL run tech/dress run through.

Sunday, 5:30pm call/6pm GO:
SHOWTIME for ShakesBinge ($12 admission for audience)

Our audience will be given a poll at the end of the show to determine which play will receive the Audience Favorite award for 2022. Team members are not permitted to vote.
